To Our Community Friends and Neighbors,
Your local Red Cross chapter has been providing services in Nevada County for the past 87 years. As Board Chairman of our local American Red Cross chapter it's my responsibility, along with my fellow director's, to obtain adequate funding to sustain our local operations from our local community in order to provide support within that same community as well as to conduct some kind of employment job search. It's also my privilege to oversee the chapter's activities and relate our accomplishments to the community we serve.
We are proud to share our annual report and invite you to read about the variety of services we were able to provide over the past year thanks to the generosity of the people of Nevada and Sierra Counties, who despite the economic crisis and, consequently, the necessity to do job search still find some time to help and support. I'm happy to report that we are recognized as being one of the best-run small chapters in all of California. Our recent audit went so well that the auditor commented that we could serve as a model to all chapters. Our expenses are tightly monitored and our current ratio of local volunteers to paid staff is almost fifty-four to one.
But right now we urgently need to rebuild our local relief fund so we can continue providing disaster and emergency preparedness services locally. Besides, we are always glad to see the people doing the medical or physician job search to become volunteers in our chapter. Many of the residents of Nevada and Sierra Counties do not realize our local chapter does not receive funds from the National Red Cross or United States Government to support the on-going local emergency and disaster relief preparations and assistance. In order for a Red Cross chapter to survive, the local community must choose to fund its existence.
There is a real possibility that we may need to close our local chapter unless our financial situation improves. We've set a goal of $50,000 by years end to help us through these difficult times. But we need not only money – we badly need new hands as well. So, it can’t be regarded as a real job search for you but if you have sympathy for the suffering, you will join us.
We believe the people of Nevada County cherish their local history and would be devastated if this chapter were to close after 87 years.
Please help now by writing a check for as much as you can --- talk to your family, friends and neighbors about our situation, help us spread the word. This is not “my chapter” that I'm asking you to support, it's “your chapter”.
I feel confident that I can count upon your continued support so we will be able to celebrate our 88 th year of service to our community.
